For about 1 year and 5 months, I've been Mademoiselle New Yorker. This little blog of mine has been my project that had turned into my baby (metaphorically, of course). But time passes and sometimes we must trade what we love in the hopes of achieving something greater - yes, that sentence is evidence to my 3 hour classes of both humanities and critical thinking which is all basically focused on philosophy; it does rub in. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, yesterday and today I am still Mademoiselle New Yorker - a young aspirant with an ambition beyond the horizon; tomorrow I, together with my dear fashion buddy Zoe, will be behind The Band-Aid Diaries. Looking back at Elle's April '09 editorial styled by no other than Erin Wasson brings chills down my curvy spine. I just love the very essence of it which is the movie - Empire Records. I love the style; the doc martens boots, the cropped tops, the faded denim. Seeing these pictures reminds me of the infinite love story of the characters played by Liv Tyler and Johnny Whitworth or Renee Zellweger and Still of Coyote Shivers singing "Sugar high" on the roof of Empire Records. It's 90's all over again.

Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2010 collection showcased an array of accessories that were highlighted by tassels and fox (or fur) tails. A few months ago, I saw a couple of bloggers have their own interpretations of Louis Vuitton’s spring accessory.

I recently saw a faux fur tail and I have to admit that Im close to giving in and jumping on the bandwagon of "fox" tail wearers. Im choosing between a medium gray or a large black. hmm cant quite settle just yet. Or maybe even both! I guess we'll see how it goes..

My latest shopping impulse are these sweet Philippine fashion week babies that were presented by, wait for it, SM department store! And yes, I do shop there occasionally. They're actually quite comfy - comfier than it looks; and what's cool about them is that I get to wear them day or night! Im really impressed by SM's shoe collection; though they get some of their designs from international designers (ex. Alexander Wang) but atleast they dont have the audacity to charge mega bucks for stolen or "inspired" designs! hahaha so lets all channel our nationalistic side and buy local!

Plum Sykes

I only have a handful of favorite writers and one of them is Plum Sykes. Her debut novel “Bergdorf Blondes” was for me, the epitome of a well written chic lit. It was smart, witty, fashionable, and the plot was just fit for my taste. Sykes already had her second novel out which is entitled “Debutante Divorcee” but unfortunately I haven’t found a copy yet but it’s still on the top of my list. But beyond making great easy-to-read books, Sykes is a contributor to American Vogue where I think she is believed to be Wintour’s protégé. And as an avid fan of Anna, I can safely say that I have no objection whatsoever to Plum Sykes being her little Emily. I think Plum Sykes is downright great. She’s smart, witty, and fashionable – just like how her novel was. She’s another brit so I guess that’s a common factor between her and Anna. And ironically she seems to look a bit like Mischa Barton who is another brit. Haha! So here’s to Plum Sykes who I am rooting for as the next editor-in-chief of American Vogue. I guess if it won’t be me, it might as well be her. --> ambisyosa. :)

I know, I know Im way too late with the movie. But I just recently read the book and just finished watching it on dvd and my god, call me lame but whatever. It was pretty awesome! Okay, fine, it was awesome! I love it in probably the same way as I would love sex and the city the movie! And that’s got to mean something coming from someone like me. As always, the movie will never be comparable to the book but the movie version wasn’t so bad that it would totally destroy the sheer magnificence of the story that was seriously eloquently (as I see it) written. I mean it was like poetry! Or at least that’s how I would consider those lines. Im way too in love with it; and it’s not the typical boy meets girl crap you see in every film. It’s funny but not in the way that it was meant to be funny; it was more on the witty sense. And another great thing that I love about it was how these two random people built an instant connection through music. It’s like what Nick said, “I am holding her and wanting and knowing and hoping all at once. We are the ones who take this thing called music and line it up with this thing called time. We are the ticking, we are the pulsing, we are underneath every part of this moment. And by making the moment our own, we are rendering it timeless.”

But my favorite line/s has got to be this one..

“I press forward and she’s right there and I'm reaching out and she's right there and right at that moment the amps amplify and the music takes on such a pulse that it becomes my heartbeat and her heartbeat and I know it and she knows it and this is the point where we could break apart and that would be it, totally it. Rag & Bone presents a different way of looking at the whole tough chick thing thats been going on for quite a while now. to be honest, im pretty sick of the studs and the whole gladiator stiletto mix. rag & bone gives something thats a bit more fresh from the ordinary but still retaining that particular concept of edge.

what i particularly love about this collection is the whole clean cut and immaculately tailored look. the tailored pants, the easy fit sweater, and the monochrome, puts together a very chic new york woman living in a new york minute but without the slightest presence of the hustle and bustle of the big city.

The Runaways
the biopic starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning is certainly a must watch on my list. the film's about Joan Jett (played by Stewart) and her band entitled the Runaways.
i cant wait to watch it!

Oxfords have been around for quite a while and it has been lurking in my mind since the time Sienna trotted the streets with those beautiful cream colored oxfords. Although I think wearing a pair could be a bit challenging (avoiding looking like a jazz dancer or Gipetto) but still I find the shoe compellingly interesting. It is quirky and geek chic at the same time. Just take it from the shoes’ wearers who all embody the quirky flair.

Leopard prints are known to be “cheetah prints” worn by a bunch of pesky singing teenagers orchestrated by the Disney channel. Leopard prints become less tacky and more fashionably acceptable when worn with a balanced ensemble. Through the Gossip Girl episodes we’ve seen Jenny Humphrey’s personal style transcend from a clean uptown good girl look to a more edgy grungy-esque appearance; I think it’s a major improvement despite the occasions wherein she takes the grunge a little too far resulting to the white trash look. This coming 2010 I’ve decided to create a fashion resolution; and that is, to remove the status quos and take away the boundaries that limit my fashion horizon. Due to an absent teacher and the resulting free cut, my friends and I once again journeyed the millions of isles of the great ayala malls. (not to mention, walking quite a mile for some good ol’ sausage mcmuffin) During these few hours, I have finally found the one piece that has immensely taunted my mind with its defying structure and its sheer uniqueness that will probably seem outrageous to those who are annoyingly ignorant of the changing times and the forever modifying fashion.

This piece that I have been so longingly chasing and looking for has finally been discovered!

*insert drum roll here.* the POWER BLAZER.

Now let us so graciously review the power blazer’s fashion history..

It was Christophe Decarnin in Balmain’s Spring 2008 ready to wear collection that gave birth to the very definition of “the power blazer”. The lines were clean, the shoulders sharp; thus, the tailoring was immaculately executed. In the Fall of 2009, Decarnin presented the same concept of the piece yet altering the slightest and yet the most pristine of details. The shoulders were now winged with a slight yet striking curve on each side. It was utterly magnificent.
